Questions & Answers

If you have any questions that haven't been answered below, please feel free to send them to foreningen@briggentrekronor.se and we will answer them.

How do I get to Kastellholmen and are there parking spaces?

When we depart from Kastellholmen, you can either take bus 65 from Klarabergsviadukten to Kastellholmsbron or the Djurgården ferry to Skeppsholmen. Please note, however, that during peak season, only certain Djurgården ferry services stop at Skeppsholmen. Parking spaces – a limited number nearby – are available on Skeppsholmen, but they are expensive. Map.

Do you actually sail?

Yes, we actually get that question sometimes, and we are equally surprised every time. Our crew takes pride in always sailing as much as possible. It even happens that we set sail already at the quay if the winds are right. For natural reasons, however, we occasionally have to use the engine, but we only do so when it is truly necessary to ensure you have the best possible experience on board and to keep to the scheduled times for the sailing. For longer voyages, the time is calculated to ensure we truly have time to sail.

Can guests participate in the work?

Yes, as far as possible, we try to involve our passengers to participate themselves to give you a genuine feeling of what it means to sail a 330-ton vessel using wind and manual power. Our crew demonstrates and explains so that everyone – who wishes to – can participate, and please feel free to ask about anything you're wondering about, and we'll be happy to explain.

Can children join all sailings?

Yes. All sailings are open to children, and we have no lower age limit; it is up to you as a parent, who knows your child best, to decide if it is suitable. However, we have good experiences with children on board all our sailings. Children under two years old sail for free and do not need to be registered as passengers, but you should indicate in the 'Other info' field that you are bringing young children.

Do people get seasick?

Regarding our shorter sailings, the answer is generally no. The Stockholm archipelago is fantastic in that it offers such sheltered waters that it is extremely rare for anyone to experience seasickness on board. If you can handle the Djurgården ferry, you can usually handle a sailing with Tre Kronor. However, on longer offshore voyages, it can be choppier. In fact, even many of our crew members sometimes experience seasickness, but a lot depends on technique and knowledge to manage it. Feel free to read more about it here.

Seasickness patches are often very effective, but these are only available by prescription and should therefore be acquired well in advance of the sailing. However, this is something typically only needed for long voyages across open sea.

Do you cancel in bad weather?

The answer is that it would take extreme circumstances for us to cancel.
Just today, someone enthusiastically shared on Facebook about a sailing with Tre Kronor in 20 m/s winds and rain.
Tre Kronor af Stockholm is built to practically withstand a round-the-world voyage, and the weather and wind we encounter around Stockholm do not pose such significant problems that we would need to cancel a sailing because of them.
We once cancelled a sailing due to weather in Varberg, but that was because there was such strong westerly wind that we couldn't leave the quay. In that situation, it was probably for the best anyway, as the coast outside Varberg is completely unprotected, and with the swell that was present, most people would have become seasick.
The Stockholm archipelago has the great advantage of having so many islands that block the waves, so there never really is any serious swell. Therefore, we can offer comfortable sailing even in rather harsh weather, which is usually much appreciated by everyone on board.
Nor does rain cause us to cancel, and as for thunderstorms, we have adequate protection in the form of robust lightning conductors that protect the ship and its passengers. However, we naturally try to avoid sailing into areas with heavy rain and thunderstorms as much as possible.

Is food included in the price?

Food is included in almost all sailings, except for a few shorter or simpler ones. Information about this can be found under each sailing.

Do you have a chef on board?

The food on board is prepared by professional chefs, and sometimes by skilled 'hobby chefs'. During member sailings, we sometimes simply help each other out. Good food handling and hygiene are always central.

How many people can be on board?

It depends on where we sail and what we aim to achieve with the trip. In sheltered waters and near the coast, we can accommodate up to 50 passengers in addition to the crew. We normally recommend a maximum of 45 people, and if you wish to sit comfortably in the saloon and dine, 38 people is our recommendation.

When we embark on long voyages across open sea, the maximum number of passengers is 12.

Do you need a life jacket?

We operate under the same regulations as regular passenger vessels, so you are not required to wear a life jacket. There are life vests for everyone on board in case of an emergency. If you wish for your child to wear a life jacket during the sailing trip, you are welcome to bring your own, as we do not have standard life jackets available for loan on board.

Are bed linen included on long voyages?

Yes, bed linen and a towel are included when you participate in a sailing trip with an overnight stay on board.

Can you buy a glass of wine or a beer on board?

No, we do not have a general liquor license. Bringing your own alcohol is not permitted. Soft drinks are available for purchase at the bar.
For special events such as weddings and similar occasions, we apply for a temporary liquor license.
For us, the sailing experience is the focus, and many of the crew members are young people. The crew has a zero-tolerance policy regarding alcohol while on duty.

Can you charter the entire ship?

Yes, if you plan well in advance, you can book the ship for events such as weddings, baptisms, milestone birthdays, or corporate events. We currently do not have the project management capacity for such bookings in the near future. However, our route planning generally begins after the end of each season, with the goal of finalizing the “broad outlines” before Christmas. Detailed planning then continues during the first quarter of each year. See the Board, Route Planning.

Is it possible to call the ship?

Yes. Our phone number at the bottom of each page on this website is directed to the purser on board during the sailing season, who can best be reached between 9 AM and 6 PM, seven days a week.
During the off-season, board members and volunteers take turns answering calls, available Monday to Friday, from 10 AM to 3 PM.
